Premiums and discounts are adjustments used to reflect characteristics of an ownership interest or business that may affect its value. A premium may relate to control or other favorable rights, while a discount may reflect limited control, lack of marketability, or other relevant risks. The appropriate analysis depends on the engagement purpose, ownership interest, company facts, and supporting valuation evidence.
